Having Trust in Allah

As salaam alaykum,

I started today off rather groggy. Ive not been sleeping well. The only moment I did sleep is after I had recited Quran. Im still pretty much half asleep now.

Anyhow working where I am Ive come into contact with a previous patient. Shes gone downhill since I last saw her. Its spread beyond its primary site and this only means one thing.  Unfortunately her days are numbered. Only Allah knows how many.

Cancer is a disease that doesnt discriminate. No matter whether youre man, woman, old or young. No matter what youve done in life, whether youre a murderer or a saint. Its one of those diseases that modern man has never found a complete cure for because each and every single case is completely different. Right down to its genetic basis.

I cant help but think that this is one of the ways only Allah moves without possible intervention from man.  Sometimes we are able to cure our patients, sometimes we can only delay what is inevitable. And sometimes we can only ease the symptoms in a non-drug method.

In Islam there is  a strong belief in predestination and cancer is essentially a genetic mutation. There is always a strong chance of it happening to anyone hence my link to predestination.

For some cancer means a prolonged and torturous death. Waiting for the angel of death to take them. Time and time again in medical ethics the topic of ethunasia comes up. I dont understand how people can think about what I can only essentially term assisted suicide.

Why cant this delay in death which you know is inevitable be a wake up call? Why cant you use it as a last chance to get close to your Lord like this sister is? So many people pass away so quickly without the chance of repenting, making good what they did wrong. Using the last moments given to them to please their Lord.

This sister which I saw this morning brings tears to my eyes now at the thought of her. I endevour to see her after I finish work tonight.

This sister has in particular completely changed since I last saw her. She has embraced her religion, started praying 5 times a day and read Quran. Her trust in Allah is amazing. Its something I aspire to.

Islam essentially means to submit totally to Allah. Put all your affairs in the trust of Allah.Depend soley on Allah and realise that everything given to you has a reason whether it has a blessing or a test. That in some way we should be grateful and learn from it.

Many of us forget that there is always someone worse off than us. In a worse situation without their family, without money, no food, no water, nothing to keep them warm at night. And then  to reliterate some of us are not given that chance to return to our Lord.

Indeed this sister has and she is feeling the sweetness of it. She said to me this morning how she prayed to Allah and her treatment went really well. She has her trust in Allah.

O Allah help the rest of us fully submit our trust to you alone. For you are the one who is able to do all things. Ameen

  2. ameen ameen ya rub-al alimeen:)

  3. Dear reader, I beg the difference between suicide and murder, which indeed is a work of creator in cancer cases or any other “out of man’s control” diasters… How come someone with brain working just fine compare Euthenesia wit Suicide.
Why suicide is a sin, one may ask? well, because as poorly evolved primitive specise of present time believe that god created us and only he has the right to take it. OK! no matter how stupid that sounds, but for the sake of argument, we accept it. But when a victim of his creation is suffering an excruciating pain of cancer and every minute he/she is asking god to end their lives and what god does? NOTHING! looking down on us with arms folded in an indiffernce. Euthenesia is the only HUMANE thing to do when blood-thirs creator refuses to end his victim’s life at his/her request.

      Dear Curiosome,
Why do you think it sounds stupid that the provider of life is the only One who has the right to take it away? Depending on who much faith you and faith itself comes from Allah Ta’la, there is an understand in the society we live in today and the acts we commit ourself to can be sinful and so on. However there is always going to be a veil between us and Allah because our hearts have gathered that dust from the dunya (world) and we fail to wipe it clean. So how can we, who have no real realisation of reality say pain is wrong and take a shortcut when we do not know the real reason for the persons pain i.e. there are certain knowledge which are hidden from us. If you know the story of Musa AS and Khidr AS you may begin to understand what i am saying. Allah does not do unjust with any of his servants, rather within pain and suffering there is a hidden mercy which Allah alone knows. Coming to the question of euthenesia (assisted suicide) is wrong and it is wrong because you are trying to take the will of life into your own hands. There is a Hadith: There was amongst those before you a man who had a wound. He was in [such] anguish that he took a knife and made with it a cut in his hand, and the blood did not cease to flow till he died. Allah the Almighty said: My servant has himself forestalled Me; I have forbidden him Paradise.
The question is what is the difference then between the man who cut his hand and the person who has the euthenesia, surely they both have the same motive to ease pain and end suffering and make a quick exit? As i mentioned before suffering is a means of hidden mercy but also purification of oneself, someone once said before that heaven is a pure place and one would have to be pure to enter. Allah knows best.
My aim here is not to argue but to hopefully bring some realisation that we cannot control life and give and take as we please, but act in accordance to that which Allah and his Prophet P.B.U.H have prescribed for us.

Aspiring to serve the servants of Allah
